Welcome to Derby Mercury

Derby Mercury Members

Derby Mercury has been around since 1938 and its objectives are the encouragement of cycling and other outdoor activities.

We have both on and off road riders. When members are not out training or on holiday, weekly clubs rides are held on Sundays meeting at Allestree or Autumn Tints run from a choice of three locations (in rotation) with special long events on occasional Saturdays. Regular mountain biking is on a Monday evening with some weekend rides. During the summer we run a Club Time Trial series on Tuesday evenings.

We also promote open time trials and a cyclo-cross in the Notts and Derby league.

If you have any questions or want to know more about us, get in touch using the contacts page or come along to our clubhouse on a Tuesday night.

Rosie rides REVOLUTION 25

1 Mile Dash (Before the crash!)

After the disappointment of being a reserve for the UK School Games in September, Rosie Blount got her chance to ride a high profile track meet last Saturday at REVOLUTION 25.

The regionally selected Futurestars were teamed up with elite track endurance riders, a sprinter and a guest professional rider in the new format REVOLUTION Championship. The East Midlands Futurestars were lucky enough to be part of the PACERS team including Steven Burke, Alex Dowsett, George Atkins and Pete Kennaugh and captained by Olympic gold medallist Jamie Staff. The team’s Pro Peloton rider, who will make periodic appearances, is David Millar.

Duncun Putman wins Stafford GP-Diamond Jubilee RR

.

A full field started this event along the rolling 66 mile circuit, part of which is to be included in this years forthcoming Tour of Britain. Although the weather was warm, a fast pace was maintained with the usual breaks taking place from the start and at the back, a few riders were also packing it in straight away after finding the pace too hot.

LVRC National Road Race Championships 2009

Last Sunday August 23rd, the LVRC championships were held as part of the La Fleche Waltonne road races promoted by Welland Valley Cycling Club.

In a fit of enthusiasm earlier in the season I had entered my age category C ( 50-54) despite my relative inexperience of road racing. As the day of the event came closer I wondered whether I had over-reached myself. When I got the entry list I recognised quite a few names from previous events, a few ex-pros and a couple of sponsored riders like Ian Wright of Raleigh Avanti, the current National Cyclocross champion for V50+.
